Disabilities and Health-related Needs: Resources for Test Takers with Disabilities

ETS is committed to providing reasonable testing accommodations for candidates with documented disabilities or health-related needs, as recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA). The information on this website is intended to help test takers, evaluators and disability service providers complete the process that enables candidates to request accommodations.

Accommodations for At Home Testing

In response to the mass test cancellations worldwide due to the rapid spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), ETS worked diligently to introduce at home testing solutions for the TOEFL iBT^? test, GRE^? General Test, HiSET^? exam, GACE^? Program Admission assessment and certain Praxis^? tests as quickly as possible. ETS is committed to providing reasonable testing accommodations for candidates with documented disabilities or health-related needs. While there will be limitations in locations, capacity and accommodations due to the nature of online proctored exams, we are working as quickly as possible to meet the needs of eligible test takers who request accommodations.

Test takers with disabilities and health-related needs can request accommodations via their ETS account before registering for a test. If approved, test takers can register for the following accommodations through their ETS account:

extended time
extra breaks
screen magnification
selectable colors

For all other approved accommodations, test takers must register through ETS Disability Services.

Confidentiality Statement

ETS will not release any information regarding an individual's diagnosis or medical information without his or her informed written consent or under compulsion of legal process. Information will be released only on a "need-to-know" basis, except where otherwise required by law. Furthermore, to safeguard the confidentiality of individuals with disabilities, evaluators may withhold or redact any portion of the documentation that is not directly relevant to ETS's criteria for establishing a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and a rationale for the requested testing accommodations.

ETS encourages all institutions to provide secure storage for confidential and sensitive student and employee information that may be used in support of requests for ETS accommodations.
